Public Health & Nutrition Education
I am academically trained in all aspects of public health due to my Bachelor of Science from American University but wanted to increase my marketing ability for behavior change and habits. Enter my Master of Science in Nutrition Education. My public health career has been focused on raising awareness and educating everyone from kindergarten through young adulthood on developing and sustaining healthy practices and working with other health and industry professionals to cultivate a healthier environment and world for this and future generations.
Educating Youth
Learning good habits at a young age is easier than trying to override intermediate habits when older. As a part of the Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation's FITT Street Team, I engaged groups of 20-100, 7th graders in physical activity,
nutrition education, and cognitive development activities, to help the students establish healthier lifestyles throughout DCPS. As a Teaching Assistant for FreshFarm's FoodPrints program, I led or assisted 20 cooking and gardening lessons to 20-30 elementary school students per class at four DC public schools which enabled the students to cultivate a palate for fruits and vegetables. For the Washington Nationals Youth Baseball Academy, I expanded program development and cultivated new nutrition education lesson plans. On top of my fellowship work for Volo Kids Foundation, I volunteered as a Volleyball Coach for 5-13-year-olds. Teaching them the skills of the game, teamwork, and self-confidence.
Podcast: A Stealth Public Health Intervention
The Parenting Yourself podcast was created as my final assessment of my master's program. The task was to create a full-fledged nutrition education program. The final product includes a full season of podcast episodes, an Instagram account, an article depicting the rationale for the program from conception to implementation and evaluation, and a video presentation summarizing the main points of the article and "selling" the project.
Educating College Students on Healthy Habits
College Students are one of the fastest-growing demographics affected by the obesity epidemic. For an independent study, I organized and delivered a six-week cooking course for college students as formative research in my final proposal: Cooking on Campus - A Comprehensive Proposal to Combating Obesity in College Students.
To learn the DESIGN Procedure, I researched and developed an Education Plan Narrative to teach college students and young professionals how to increase healthy habits, primarily healthy meals and snacks into their daily routine: The Lunchbox Chronicles: A How-To for Young Professionals to Increase Healthy Food (Meal and Snack) Preparation in the Home.

As a part of my capstone group, we developed a six-week workshop curriculum for 12-18-year-olds and facilitator guide on Mental Health stress reduction and resiliency techniques for Jubilee Housing, a local nonprofit.

Graphic Design For Public Health and Nutrition Education
Social Media has saturated the health world with inaccurate content, and fully understanding scientific research and journals is hard. Here are a few examples where I have translated scientific information into understandable common terms.
